How to Pick a General Contractor in San Diego

Feeling inspired to get your own makeover underway? There are many factors to keep in mind
before beginning any remodel project, the garage is no exception. I have three key points to keep
in mind when you are selecting a general contractor in San Diego. There is plenty of advice to be
found when it comes to finding a contractor so this is by no means inclusive, these are just a
couple factors to bear in mind.

1. Do you really need one? Are you just installing some fresh flooring and doing an overhaul of
your organization system? You may not need anything more than the advice and installation
team of your chosen flooring or cabinetry company. Make sure you do your homework and find
someone willing to work with you on the design as well as give you some tips for any DIY
projects you have planned. Focusing on what you really need for your ultimate goal is a great
way to save money and make sure your budget goes as far as possible. Additionally look for
flooring retailers that are also general contractors if you are unsure how complicated your project
is going to be.

2. Find someone who specializes in garage remodel. If your project is big, you want to a general
contractor in San Diego who specializes in garages. They will be able to help you decide
between rhino flooring and decorative concrete or pegboards vs. rails for wall storage. People
who specialize will often know the best vendors and can get you discounts you would not have
access to on your own. Taking advantage of someone’s expertise is the smartest thing you can
do when embarking on a big project. Be on the lookout for someone who is not afraid to tell you
no. Make sure they have a good explanation but a good guide is not afraid to say no.

3. Ask for photos of past projects. They should be able to show you both finished work and work
underway. Whether intentional or not, there may be a similar look to all their projects and you
need to make sure this falls in line with your needs. When looking at photos of projects underway
be sure to check for things like a tidy jobsite
and proper safety attire. If someone is doing the
bare minimum for a job, chances are they will not want photographic evidence around, so
someone with a complete photo portfolio is likely to be better. This allows you to merely rely on
references and recommendations.

4. Get excited!
